The first of the initial two ships in the class, MSC Europa, is currently under construction at Chantiers’ shipyard in Saint-Nazaire and is due to enter service in 2022. These latest construction contracts represent a capital investment by MSC Cruises exceeding EUR 2 billion.
The four new ships will be based on a new advanced next-generation prototype and will be equipped with a dual-fuel engines designed to run on liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The second new class will be something totally different. It sees MSC Cruises partnering with Chantiers de l’Atlantique in the development of yet another innovative prototype ship class concept with which they will explore opportunities that wind power and other advanced technologies could bring to passenger shipping.
Saint-Nazaire shipyard has recently unveiled the Silenseas+ concept, a hybrid cruise ship that uses both sailing propulsion and dual-fuel engines to keep the vessel on schedule, that could be the base for this new project.
This class of 4 vessels will be part of the new MSC Luxury Brand, still unnaimed. The first ship will be delivered in 2026.
